How to use the keyword density checker
Paste the text of your article or page into the box above. The tool counts every word and shows the most repeated single words, two-word phrases and three-word phrases, with how often each appears and its density. To check one specific keyword, type it into the target keyword box and you will see exactly how many times it is used. Click Download CSV to save the results.
What is keyword density?
Keyword density is the percentage of words in a text that are a particular keyword or phrase. It is calculated as the number of times the keyword appears, multiplied by the number of words in the keyword, divided by the total number of words, then multiplied by 100. For example, a single-word keyword used 10 times in a 500-word article has a density of 2%.
What is a good keyword density?
There is no official ideal. Search engines do not use a target percentage, and many SEO guides suggest keeping a main keyword at roughly 1% to 2% only as a loose guide. Repeating a keyword unnaturally, known as keyword stuffing, makes content harder to read and can hurt results. Write for people first, use natural variations and related terms, and use this tool to spot accidental overuse or to check that your main topic appears clearly.
Tips for using the results
- Check that your main keyword appears in the title, a heading and the opening paragraph, not just in the body.
- Look at the phrase lists to see what topics your text actually emphasizes.
- Keep “Ignore common words” on for more useful results, or turn it off to see every word.
- The tool only analyzes the text you paste. It does not include text in images, menus or meta tags.
