How to convert CSV to JSON

Paste your CSV data into the box above, or upload a CSV file. You can also copy cells straight from Excel or Google Sheets and paste them, and the tool will detect the tab separators automatically. The JSON appears instantly. Use Copy JSON to copy it, or Download .json to save it as a file.

For example, this CSV:

name,age
Alex,30
Sam,25

becomes a list of objects, one for each row, like [{"name":"Alex","age":30},{"name":"Sam","age":25}], shown with line breaks and indentation.

What do the options do?

  • Delimiter: auto-detect finds commas, semicolons, tabs or pipes for you, or you can choose one yourself.
  • First row contains headers: when on, each row becomes an object using the header names as keys. When off, you get a list of lists.
  • Convert numbers, true/false and null: turns values like 30, 4.5, true and null into real JSON types. Values with leading zeros, such as zip codes like 00501, and very long numbers stay as text so nothing is lost.
  • Trim spaces: removes extra spaces around every value.
  • JSON formatting: choose 2 spaces, 4 spaces, a tab, or minified output.

Good to know

The converter follows standard CSV rules, so values wrapped in double quotes can contain commas, line breaks and escaped quotes. If a row has more or fewer columns than the header, the tool still converts it and shows a warning. After converting, you can check or tidy the result with our JSON Validator and JSON Formatter.
