How to convert WebP to PNG
- Click the box above, or drag and drop your WebP images onto it. You can add many at once.
- Choose whether to keep the original size or fit the images within a smaller size.
- Click Convert to PNG.
- Download each PNG, or download them all together as a ZIP.
Why convert WebP to PNG?
WebP is a modern image format that websites use because it gives small files. Many programs still cannot open WebP, though, including older photo editors, some document and presentation tools, and some upload forms. PNG is accepted almost everywhere, so converting makes an image easier to open, edit and share.
- Transparency is kept: if your WebP image has a transparent background, the PNG keeps it.
- No extra quality loss: PNG is lossless, so converting does not make the picture any worse than the WebP you started with.
- Saved from the web: pictures you download from websites often arrive as WebP files, and this is a quick way to turn them into PNG.
Is it safe and private?
Yes. Your images are converted entirely in your web browser on your own device, so they are never uploaded to a server or stored anywhere. The page loads one small open-source library for the ZIP download, so it needs an internet connection the first time.
Good to know
- PNG files are usually larger than the WebP files they come from, often by a lot for photos, because WebP compresses better. The result card shows both sizes.
- Animated WebP images are converted using only their first frame, and the tool tells you when that happens.
- Only files that end in .webp are accepted here. For other formats such as JPG, GIF or SVG, use our Image to PNG tool.
- You can convert up to 50 images and 100 MB in total at a time. Very large images are limited to 8,000 pixels on the long side so your browser stays stable. Your original files are never changed.
Need a smaller file instead? Try our Image to JPG tool, or put images into a document with JPG to PDF.
