How to use the scientific calculator
- Tap the buttons or type on your keyboard to build an expression, such as
sin(30) + 2^3. - A grey preview of the answer appears as you type. Press = or Enter to confirm it and save it to the history.
- Press an operator such as + or × straight after = to carry on from the last answer, or use the Ans button at any time.
- Use DEG or RAD to choose whether angles are in degrees or radians.
What it can do
- Arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, divide, brackets and percent (50% is 0.5).
- Powers and roots: x², xʸ, square root (√), cube root (∛), and eˣ.
- Trigonometry: sin, cos, tan and their inverses, in degrees or radians. You can also type sinh, cosh and tanh.
- Logarithms: ln (base e) and log (base 10).
- Other: factorial (n!), absolute value, 1/x, and the constants π and e.
- Keyboard: type * and / for multiply and divide, ^ for powers, Enter for equals and Escape to clear.
Good to know
- Order of operations: brackets first, then powers, then multiply and divide, then add and subtract. Powers are worked out right to left, so 2^3^2 is 512.
- Implicit multiplication: 2π and 2(3+4) are read as 2×π and 2×(3+4). Note that 1÷2π is read as (1÷2)×π, so use brackets for 1÷(2π).
- Percent: a percent sign divides the number before it by 100, so 200×15% is 30.
- Precision: answers are shown to about 12 significant digits, which hides tiny floating-point errors such as 0.1+0.2 giving 0.30000000000000004.
- Limits: factorials work for whole numbers up to 170. Division by zero, square roots of negative numbers and logarithms of zero or negative numbers show an error message.
- Missing closing brackets at the end of an expression are added for you.
Is it private?
Yes. Every calculation happens in your web browser. Your expressions and history are never uploaded or stored, and this tool needs no outside libraries.
