How to convert a column to a comma-separated list
Select a column of cells in Excel or Google Sheets, copy it, and paste it into the box above. The tool instantly turns it into a single line. For example, a column with Apple, Banana and Cherry on separate lines becomes Apple,Banana,Cherry. Change the delimiter, wrap items in quotes, sort, or remove duplicates with the options, then click Copy Result.
Supported delimiters and options
- Delimiters: comma, semicolon, pipe, tab, space, new line, or any custom text you type.
- Wrap items: add double quotes, single quotes, backticks, square brackets or parentheses around every item.
- Clean-up: trim extra spaces, remove empty lines, remove duplicates, and sort from A to Z or Z to A.
- List to column: switch the conversion to turn a comma-separated list back into one value per line.
Common uses
- Building a list for an SQL query, such as
WHERE id IN (...), by wrapping items in single quotes. - Preparing values for a CSV file, a form field or an email tool that expects a comma-separated list.
- Combining a long column of names, IDs or email addresses into one line.
- Cleaning a messy list by removing blanks and duplicates in one step.
Good to know: when converting a list back to a column, the tool splits on the chosen delimiter, so a value that itself contains that delimiter (such as a comma inside quotes) will be split as well.
