You can add a last modified date after a URL, separated by a space, in the format YYYY-MM-DD. This tool does not crawl your site, so list the pages you want included.

Add some URLs to generate your sitemap.

Everything is generated in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored.

How to use the XML sitemap generator

Type your website address, then list the pages you want in your sitemap, one per line. You can write full URLs or short paths such as /about/. The sitemap XML is generated as you type. Click Copy XML or Download sitemap.xml. This tool does not crawl your website, so it only includes the pages you list.

What is an XML sitemap?

An XML sitemap is a file that lists the important pages of your website so search engines can find and crawl them more easily. It is especially helpful for new sites, large sites, and pages that have few links pointing to them.

What to do with your sitemap file

  • Upload the file to the root of your website so it is available at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
  • Add a Sitemap line pointing to it in your robots.txt file. Our Robots.txt Generator can create that for you.
  • Submit the sitemap address in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Good to know

  • Google ignores the change frequency and priority values, which is why they are optional and left out by default. An accurate last modified date can help, but only if it reflects real changes.
  • A single sitemap can contain up to 50,000 URLs and be up to 50 MB uncompressed. Larger sites need several sitemaps.
  • List only the canonical, indexable pages you want in search results, and use the same host (for example www or non-www) for every URL.
  • If your site runs on WordPress, it may already create a sitemap automatically, either built in or through an SEO plugin. Check before making one by hand.
