Your JSON is processed in your browser and never uploaded or stored.
How to use the JSON formatter
Paste your JSON into the Input box and click Format to make it easy to read, Minify to compress it onto a single line, or Validate to check that it is correct. If the JSON is invalid, the tool shows the line and column where the problem was found. Use the options to choose the indentation or to sort keys alphabetically.
What is JSON?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight text format for storing and exchanging data. It is used by most web APIs, configuration files and apps. JSON is easy for people to read when it is formatted and compact for computers when it is minified.
Common JSON mistakes
- Trailing commas: a comma after the last item in an object or list is not allowed.
- Single quotes: keys and text must use double quotes, not single quotes.
- Unquoted keys: every key must be wrapped in double quotes.
- Comments: JSON does not support comments.
- Missing brackets or commas: every opening bracket needs a closing one, and items need commas between them.
Good to know: very large whole numbers (beyond about 9 quadrillion) can lose precision when formatted, because browsers store them as standard floating-point numbers.
